The Sea Dragon Fluoro is a new LED Dive Light from SeaLife with both white and blue lighting modes. Introduced here at DEMA in Las Vegas this week, the Sea Dragon Fluoro is one of the best new fluorescent dive lights we’ve seen in a long time.
There is a wide range of so-called fluorescent dive lights on the market these days, but many of these are not purely fluorescent. Some dive light manufacturers use ultraviolet LEDs, blue LEDs, or a combination of both, but without an excitation filter, many other colors are displayed by these light resulting in images that are not ‘pure’ fluorescence.
The Sea Dragon Fluoro is a true fluorescent dive light and kit, with both an excitation filter over its six Cree XT-E Blue LEDs, and included barrier filter for both a dive mask and camera lens. But what makes the Sea Dragon Fluoro stand out from the pack is the inclusion of a white LED spotlight as well.
The bright white Cree XP-L LED spotlight beam generates up to 800 lumens, and is so much more practical to switch between fluorescent and regular lighting. No longer will you have to fiddle with attaching and removing the remote phosphor filter to switch between blue and white light, or carrying a secondary LED light while diving at night.
The Sea Dragon Fluoro has two settings, 50% and full brightness, and you should be able to get at least one full dive with the blue LED floodlight at full power. SeaLife has rated the Sea Dragon Fluoro to a typical depth of 100 meters (328 feet), and in addition to the barrier filters, also includes a flex-connect tray with 1 inch ball joint for $499 and is expected to ship January 2017.
