Dive Housings for the Lumix GH5
You can only learn so much about big expensive camera housing by inspecting flattering product shots from the comfort of your couch or armchair. This is why when I was serious about getting the best possible housing for the GH5, I spent a lot of time handling each of the different housings available and illustrating them to the best of my ability.
These camera housings have each been covered in depth by various industry publications and did my overview of the top three housings for the GH5, and then three more. But in this post, I want to keep mostly superficial with original images of these housings out in the real world.
Definitely refer back to the previous articles for more details, specs, pricing and each companies’ official webpage for each product.
The Pretty Japanese – This Acquapazza APPA-GH5 has a very unique style going for it, and those adjustable grip handles surely are intriguing. No doubt the APPA-GH5 is the most stylish of the GH5 housings.
Sea Frogs GH5
The Bargain – The Sea Frogs GH5 underwater housing is definitely the bargain of the bunch. If you want something light, small, and probably best suited for wet use rather than deep use, this is more of a ‘case’ than a housing.
Easy Dive Leo 3 Wi
The Universal Italian – The Easy Dive is Leo 3 Wi is the do-it-all housing which is both expensive, but also ‘future-proof’. If you like an extra layer of bells and gizmos, with all the benefits and drawbacks it comes with, there’s no other housing like it.
The Hardy Canadian – With its thick military spec anodized coating, the Aquatica AGH5 will be able to take some hits and come out no worse for wear. The small size, clever controls and mid range pricing is probably the best value of the bunch.
The ‘Ikelite’ one – Ikelite is a company known for doing things their own way. The super simple direct controls are mapped very closely to the camera layout, great for tropical diving but might be a little tougher to drill down into any menu or settings if you’re wearing gloves.
The ‘Kitchen Sink’ – Nauticam’s NA-GH5 housing, like many models from the company, is totally loaded with features that other companies might pass on. This results in a somewhat bigger housing, but suitable for the underwater photographer that wants to use it in many different ways.
