A new specialized dive shop, Eau 2 Plongée, has officially opened its doors in Saint-Malo, located at 16 rue Marion Dufresne. The store is the latest venture from Jean-Christophe Rolland, a well-known figure in the French diving community and the longtime owner of Ren’s Sports in Rennes.
The new store launched on April 1 and occupies the former location of Les Terre-Neuvas, a workers’ restaurant just a stone’s throw away from the Saint-Malo shipyard. This transformation marks a fresh start for the space, now dedicated to underwater exploration and adventure.
Full Range of Diving Gear
Eau 2 Plongée offers a comprehensive selection of diving equipment, catering to all kinds of divers—from beginners to seasoned professionals. The shop features wetsuits, masks, snorkels, spearguns, and all the gear needed for scuba diving, freediving, or underwater hunting. Whether customers prefer diving with tanks or exploring the ocean on a single breath, the store provides the tools and guidance to suit their needs.
A Legacy of 30 Years in Rennes
Jean-Christophe Rolland is no newcomer to the diving scene. For three decades, he has run Ren’s Sports in Rennes, a family-owned business with three employees. The shop has built a solid reputation for quality diving gear and expert advice. Over the years, it has become a go-to destination for diving enthusiasts in the region.
One of the standout features of the Rennes location is a custom-built five-meter-deep diving pit right inside the store. This unique addition allows Rolland to offer on-site diving experiences, training sessions, and initiation courses for those new to the sport.
Over 4,000 Dives of Experience
With more than 4,000 dives under his belt, Rolland brings a wealth of hands-on knowledge to his new Saint-Malo venture. As both a certified instructor and passionate diver, he takes pride in offering personalized advice and guidance to every customer.
In addition to selling equipment, Rolland organizes diving trips aboard his boat, Le Son ar Mor. These excursions give clients the opportunity to explore the breathtaking underwater world of the Saint-Malo bay. According to Rolland, one of the top local dive sites is the wreck of the Heinrich-Walther, located about five nautical miles offshore, nestled between the island of Cézembre and the Chausey Islands.
Bringing the Ocean Closer to Saint-Malo
By opening Eau 2 Plongée, Rolland hopes to bring his passion for diving to even more people in Brittany. The store not only sells gear but also aims to build a local community of divers who can learn, share, and explore the sea together. With decades of experience and a deep love for the ocean, Rolland is excited to make underwater adventures more accessible than ever to the residents and visitors of Saint-Malo.
The shop’s strategic location near the port and its proximity to rich diving spots make it an ideal base for anyone eager to explore the depths of the region’s coastal waters. Whether you’re a seasoned diver or someone looking to try it for the first time, Eau 2 Plongée offers a gateway into the captivating world beneath the waves.
